About Michael

I started this website less to tell my story but to tell your story. Who, what where when, and why? I’ll start first here, and if you can give your answers on the form below which will be published on this page.

Who are you?

Born in Brooklyn, New York by Momma from Ohio who left for the big city in the late 60s and had me in 1970. I grew up loving disco and hip hop, new wave and heavy metal. I DJ’d in “the city” and on “the island” and had 10 misc jobs in the metropolis through the 90s. In the Dot.Com area jumped around from start-up to start-up to eventually land at FatWire. At FatWire we had the opportunity to move to Colorado to open a new office. 20 years in and I love the place. But I get back every summer to Nueva York.

What do you do now and how’d you get into the trades?

I ended up burnt out from Corporate America and asked the wife if I could be an entrepreneur, or did she want to quit her job and I’d continue. She said go ahead. And so the Handyman Remodeling business began!

Where?

I live in Denver Metro along the front range as we call it (the little mountains before the big 14’ers start).

When?

Now 10 years in as mostly a Handyman and I don’t regret it. Challenging years in the beginning for sure, but now in 2024 it’s a good gig. Slowly transitioning out into content creation around the trades and products.

Why?

For me, handyman work is a challenge every day with every job. I can come up with very creative solutions to problems that provide value to my clients, and justify my fees. And because my jobs are usually short I get that constant shot of dopamine to make me happy -:)

Your best failure?

Boy, this sucks to admit but I just didn’t value my worth or the worth of my employees (solo now no longer have them). I didn’t charge enough and this ruined an otherwise well-organized machine with productive employees and a spirited partner. I do wonder what could have been if I charged enough $, which would have focused us on well-funded clients and offered better opportunities to my guys. It’s OK, that was a learning moment for me. Today I don’t charge less than $75 with an average of $100 an hour per job.
